Rémy Rioux, General Director of the AFD group, in Ambohijatovo, last Saturday.
A fulfilling journey, that’s what Rémy Rioux’s visit to Madagascar was, during three days, from February 29 to March 2. During his first visit to the island as Director of the AFD, Rémy Rioux hit the mark with meetings with high-ranking officials of the Malagasy State, punctuated by the signing of agreements on three major national projects. “I am pleased to conclude this regional trip to Madagascar, which allowed me to meet many actors and partners from civil society, the private sector, or public institutions, and to go with them to the field,” he explained last Saturday in Ambohijatovo, during a press conference to review his visit before his departure. The first being a forty-nine million euro project in favor of the development of balancing and territorial rebalancing cities (PADEVE 2). The second, the “Talaky be”, is a fourteen million euro project on delegated funds from the European Union to strengthen the adaptation of agriculture and the resilience of communities to climate change. And the third, which is a project to improve productivity and strengthen the resilience of livelihoods of rural populations (PPRM), is funded to the tune of twenty-five million euros by the AFD and co-financed by the World Bank. Meetings During a meeting with Prime Minister Christian Ntsay last Friday, the Director General was able to observe the coherence of the General Policy of the Malagasy State with the actions of the AFD group. The meeting led to the signing of three agreements with a funding of eighty-eight million euros. This signing marks the continuation of cooperation between Madagascar and the AFD group, which happens to be a historical partner of the country with a collaboration starting in 1952 and remaining active continuously. During this visit, Rémy Rioux was also able to follow up on the projects in which the AFD has invested, such as the “Nutri’zaza” project, the “Terre en Mêlée” project, as well as numerous urban development projects. It should be noted that this visit is part of a regional visit of the Director General in the Indian Ocean. He reiterated the AFD’s willingness to continue the actions already undertaken with the Malagasy authorities. “The AFD group listens to these actors to continue and amplify the actions taken, jointly identify new intervention paths, and co-construct solutions on the other side,” explains Rémy Rioux last Saturday.
