The bridge at the exit of Ankarafantsika is finally up to standards
Better late than never! The bridge on National Road 4, at PK 451+150, at the exit of Ankarafantsika National Park, towards the rural commune of Andranofasika, has finally been rehabilitated. It took decades and the loss of many human lives for officials to finally decide to do work on the dangerous bridge.
As part of the rehabilitation of road infrastructure in the Great Island, the Ministry of Public Works, with the Boeny Regional Directorate, has just carried out emergency work on the Andranofasika bridge, the main objective of which is to prevent accidents on the national road. The lack of visibility and space to take this very sharp turn are often the causes of many tragedies in this location.
But there is also recklessness and speeding, which often cause tragedies. Drivers are tempted to speed on this Ankarafantsika route, from the village of Ampijoroa through the National Park to the exit of the bridge. The slippery and less degraded state of the asphalt sometimes encourages them on this part of the national road, especially a kilometer before access to the bridge.
The abutment or the cracked pier at the entrance of the bridge towards Mahajanga has been reinforced. Widening and protection work on the edges with blocks of rubble has been carried out. The curve at the level of the concrete bridge has also been widened, on the right side towards Mahajanga.
