The lawyer Zakanarivo Andry Rasamoelinirina was stabbed by a docker at the Hellville market. According to police information, the assailant is a convicted criminal.
A cruel act was committed at the Andavakotoko market in the city of Nosy Be on Saturday, just before 9 o’clock in the morning. The young lawyer, Zakanarivo Andry Rasamoelinirina, 32 years old, was stabbed with a knife by a certain Christian Rabenarisolo, 36 years old. He was quickly taken to the hospital. Unfortunately, he did not survive.
“There was no dispute between them. The lawyer had tea. He was going to buy chicken when the man stabbed him. The assailant lives in Nosy Be, in our neighborhood, and works as a docker at the market. He seems mentally ill. He is not a normal person at all, even though sometimes he is calm. He always carries a knife on his hip,” a witness reports.
Police share the same observation about the behavior of the perpetrator of the crime. “In our opinion, he smokes cannabis. He is strange. We are having difficulty questioning him at the moment. His explanations are incoherent. However, he confirms that he does not know his victim. He says he felt like he was entering some kind of trance, as if someone was annoying him. He then attacked the person next to him. The lawyer, who was shopping at the market, was next to him,” says Commissioner Thomas Richard Rakoto, chief of the Public Security police station in Nosy Be. The madman was threatening another person when the police arrived. “Eyewitnesses did not dare to intervene because he had his knife. We pointed our guns at him, but he resisted. A shot had to be fired. Finally, he surrendered,” according to the commissioner.
According to police information, the stabber, who has no wife or children, is originally from Ambaliha in Analalava, and has previously been imprisoned in Ambanja for killing someone in similar circumstances. A medical certificate regarding his mental health is expected before his transfer to the prosecutor’s office scheduled for today.
“I learned from traders that he beat up a woman at the market a month ago,” says our colleague on site, Bebel Betombo.
The same colleague also recounted that Maître Zakanarivo Andry Rasamoelinirina was from Fenoarivo-Atsinanana and practiced in Nosy Be. “He was my former intern,” says a lawyer who has his office on the Perfume Island.
