The list of candidates rescued by the Ceni will be known today.
The forty-eight hours for the candidates have elapsed and the Ceni will publish the list of rescued and rejected candidates today. Paul Bert Rahasimanana and Narson Rafidimanana are among the rescued.
Rescued. This is the situation for the two deputies and candidates for their own succession, Paul Bert Rahasimanana and Narson Rafidimanana, when the National Independent Electoral Commission (Ceni) validated their candidacies after they were rejected by the Verification and Candidacy Registration Bodies (Ovec). Soava Andriamarotafika, the general rapporteur of the Ceni, declares that “the two candidates have already been notified of our decision. They have been rescued.”
The forty-eight-hour deadline for candidates to complete missing documents in their files expired yesterday at five o’clock. According to information from the election preparation body, thirty-nine candidacy files have been received. Most of them involve additional documents. The fiscal situation, especially the state 211 bis, remains the piece that poses a problem for candidates and delays submission to officials.
According to rumors from Alarobia, the candidacy of the former president of the National Assembly, Christine Razanamahasoa, would also be rescued. However, no communication has been made to confirm whether she has been notified by the Ceni or not.
Fiscal recovery
With Rossy and the deputy from Antanifotsy, Rina Randriamasinoro, secretary general of TIM and candidate in the Tana IV district, was also rescued by the Ceni. Yesterday, he explained that he also encountered difficulties regarding state 211 bis, but ultimately, the Ceni accepted his candidacy. He also announced that two other TIM candidates have been rescued. However, three others had to withdraw for reasons beyond their control. With the rescue of deputy Paul Bert Rahasimanana and Rina Randriamasinoro, the Tana IV district promises a major battle on May 29.
Soava Andriamarotafika also announces the restoration of the candidacy of Louis Joseph Ratoarimavo, known as Ranary, from Firaisankina for the Ihosy district. With him, another independent candidate for the Antsirabe II district.
Rivo Rakotovao, national president of HVM, criticized dubious maneuvers aimed at eliminating candidates. He explained that last-minute tax adjustments have occurred and prevented candidates, mostly business operators, from participating in the race to Tsimbazaza.
It should be noted that the Election Commission publishes the list of late rescued or rejected candidates. With thirty-nine pending files, the general rapporteur of the body announces that some will be rescued and others rejected. The only valid reason for rejection is that their files are incomplete. Otherwise, the Ceni has the duty to restore candidates who meet the predetermined conditions. For those who will be rejected, the texts provide for a final recourse to the High Constitutional Court (HCC) to appeal the decision of the Ceni. The institution in Ambohidahy should respond within twenty-four hours.
