Thirteen political parties composing the Armada, eighteen political parties and groupings composing the Upar as well as more than eighty associations and platforms form the coalition for the presidential majority. The coalition set the criteria yesterday for those who want to become its candidates for the legislative elections.
“We have no choice but to win.” These are the words of Marie Michelle Sahondrarimalala, Minister of National Education, as she read the declaration of the coalition for the presidential majority (CMP) yesterday at the Arena Ivandry. The Orange coalition thus comes to life after this event. It will present a single candidate for each district. Those who want to become candidates of the CMP are asked to come to Ivandry from now until March 27 with all the required documents. During the declaration, the minister gives the criteria of the coalition for those who want to stand as candidates on its behalf in the upcoming legislative elections on May 29. “There will be a strict selection to choose these contenders. The candidates that the CMP will present will be those with the best chances of winning,” explains the former campaign manager of Andry Rajoelina.
Before this selection, potential candidates must meet seven criteria. They must be individuals who supported the President and promoted him during last year’s presidential election. They must also be “clean” and without any legal issues. They should already be known in the electoral district where they want to run and must be active in social activities. They must have the will to collaborate with other members of the coalition to achieve victory. An orator who can hold a debate while defending the vision and policies of the President. Finally, they should have the logistical and communication means for the electoral campaign.
Without explicitly saying it, Marie Michelle Sahondrarimalala subtly hints that the coalition is looking for candidates who are already prepared to compete and win with all necessary means to obtain seats in Tsimbazaza. On the other hand, Lalatiana Rakotondrazafy, Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training, President of Freedom and spokesperson for the Armada, declares that no party or political coalition can beat the CMP. “We will set aside personal ambitions and act on behalf of the CMP to achieve the majority,” she exclaims.
“The most important thing for the Coalition for the Presidential Majority is to obtain a stable majority in the National Assembly in order to give the President more leeway throughout his mandate.” This is the statement of the number one of the Freedom to explain the will of the thirteen political parties composing the Armada. The biggest challenge for the CMP remains to have a majority that is truly loyal to the ideals of Andry Rajoelina. However, the political history of the country proves that the National Assembly is a stronghold of chameleons with deputies who frequently change their political positions during their term.
Mistakes will no longer be allowed in the National Assembly and the coalition will be strict in the selection of candidates. Paul Rabary, President of the party “Ny Fireneko” and member of the Upar, explains that future Orange candidates will probably not be the current deputies. Those who will be chosen must be staunch supporters of the State’s General Policy. On the side of the TGV party, the national secretary Tinoka Roberto condemns traitors to power and declares at the same time that the party will conduct a purge to separate the good from the bad.
All lights are now green for fierce battles in most districts with political headquarters competing to win the parliamentary majority. Despite the delay in the formation of the Orange coalition, the pro-regime forces are well prepared for the elections and ready to face off against the opposition. The opposition, which has taken the lead with “Firaisankina” and the “Collective of Malagasy,” has already laid out its strategies for the legislative elections.
