Madagascar: LAND DISPUTE – Elderly man killed with knife wounds

The old man died on Tuesday at this Basic Health Center in Ambondromisotra.

Due to a land dispute, a 73-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in front of his wife in the district of Ambatofinandrahana. He died as a result.

Barbaric crime. A 73-year-old head of the family took his last breath on his hospital bed at the Basic Health Center level II (CSBII) in Ambondromisotra, in the district of Ambatofinandrahana, on Tuesday. His face was covered with knife wounds.

He had a land dispute. His opponent was none other than his sister, backed by another man and a former mayor. The son of the latter and his nephew came to his house that day to kill him in front of his horrified wife.

According to an eyewitness to the horrible scene, the son of the former mayor, armed with a knife, and his cousin arrived in their courtyard in Ambohimanana (commune of Ambatomifanongoa) around 4:30 p.m. The first one climbed the stairs to pull her husband towards the door. He then pushed him towards the ground floor.

The septuagenarian tumbled down and collapsed on the ground. There again, his attacker stabbed him multiple times in the eyes and mouth.

Investigation

The injured woman called for help. Unfortunately, no one in the neighborhood, paralyzed by fear, dared to intervene.

“I then ran to my children’s house a little further north. The villains took the opportunity to empty the place,” describes the victim’s wife. Their eldest son was returning with others from an investigation at the gendarmerie when he learned of the terrible event.

In the evening, around 7 p.m., he returned to the gendarmerie to inform them of what had happened to his father. Two gendarmes went to see his father at the CSBII. According to them, his eyes were covered with traces of wounds and bruises. His mouth and nose were swollen and covered in blood. Unfortunately, he passed away two hours later, despite the intensive efforts of the medical team.

An investigation was immediately launched. The advanced post of Ambondromisotra, supported by the Judicial Police Support Group of Amoron’i Mania, arrested and detained in custody the two alleged perpetrators of the crime. The motive for their act is based on the land dispute, according to their confessions.
