The senior championship of Madagascar was dominated yesterday by the judokas of the Saint Michel club. The Judo Club Esca settled for second place in the medal table.
The title contenders confirmed their status. The Judokas of AS Saint Michel shine with four national titles out of nine finals competed. The senior and junior championships of Madagascar took place yesterday at the Ankorondrano gymnasium. Two titles were clinched by the boys. The final of the -73 kg category was a Saint Michel affair. Lova Mahaisoa Randrianasolo, bronze medalist at the 2022 African championship, confirms his supremacy and wins the gold medal by defeating his young teammate, Mandresy Razafimpanja, by ippon in the 34th minute.
In the -66 kg category, Lucas Rasoanaivo Razafy, son of Olympian Luc Rasoanaivo Razafy and brother of senior and junior African champion Laura Rasoanaivo Razafy, emerged victorious in a thrilling golden score against Emilson Ralevazaha from FJA Antsirabe.
The latter still controlled the situation during regular time. In the women’s category, bronze medalist at the 2019 African championship in Madagascar, Narindra Rakotovao, defeated Roumaica Rabenandro from Esca in golden score. The final of the -78 kg category also saw a matchup between two regulars in the national team.
The victory went to Miora Rasoanaivo, usually competing in the over 78 kg category. She defeated her teammate Zo Hajanirina Andriambololona. This former judoka from Ihosy recently joined the Amparibe club this season.
The Judo Club of the Sacred Heart School Antanimena (Esca) settled for second place in the senior medal table this time. Esca only secured two victories out of five finals. Frederica Ralalaharisoa, a member of the national team since the 2000s, continues to accumulate titles. She overcame the judoka from EJC, Bien Mado Bezafy, in the -63 kg category final. “I am delighted to win the title. I fought three matches to reach the top. The most difficult was the final match. Judo is constantly evolving, as are the judokas,” Frederica said after her victory in the final. In the men’s category, Madagascar’s flag bearer at the last African Games, Fetra Ranaivoarisoa, confirmed his champion status by defeating Mialy Rakotovelo in the -81 kg category.
Five other clubs each won a title. On the men’s side, Angelo Rakotonandrasana from Cosfa, one of those who traveled to Ghana, won the title in the -60 kg category, and Marco Tolonantenaina from CCS Toliara in the heavyweight over 100 kg category. The national summit continues this Thursday in Ankorondrano. It’s the cadets and juniors’ turn today.
