Madagascar is currently celebrating the 6th week of Flamenco with Spanish singer Raúl Rodriguez, Cristian de Moret, and painter Patricio Hidalgo, accompanied by their manager Javier Mantecon at AFT Andavamamba and IFM Analakely.
What is Flamenco and how is it evolving?
Flamenco, rooted in Spanish tradition, is an artistic expression where its three pillars are singing, dancing, and guitar playing. However, as the world changes, Flamenco also evolves, integrating a variety of artistic styles such as rock, electronic, hip-hop, and even painting. This flexibility allows Flamenco to harmoniously blend with any artistic genre, giving rise to unique and inspiring creations.
Can Flamenco be played with any instrument?
Over time, Flamenco has modernized, welcoming all instruments of the world. For example, Raúl Rodriguez has created his own instrument, the “Tres.” The fusion of Flamenco with other musical and artistic genres is not only possible but encouraged, opening up new avenues for expression and artistic exploration. Flamenco draws inspiration from all arts.
What are the goals of this Flamenco week in Madagascar?
The Flamenco week in Madagascar aims to share this unique expression with the Malagasy and international audience, while showcasing the history and cultural richness of Spain. For us, it is not only about introducing and promoting Spanish culture to the Malagasy people, but also about building bridges between cultures by integrating Flamenco into the local artistic scene.
How will the show at IFM be tonight?
The show tonight at IFM at 7 pm promises an immersive artistic experience. This performance will be different from yesterday’s at AFT. The singers will interpret Flamenco with a touch of rock, while Patricio Hidalgo will paint live on stage, adding a fascinating visual dimension to the performance. It will be a spectacle where music and painting intertwine to offer a truly unique sensory experience.
Are you considering collaborating with Malagasy artists?
Raúl Rodriguez has already established connections with Malagasy artists during his residency with Rajery in 2019. This collaboration with Rajery will continue with the creation of a single involving the artists of the 6th week of Flamenco, testifying to the commitment to build lasting cultural bridges between Madagascar and Spain. Thanks to the Embassy of Spain and the Honorary Consulate of Spain in Madagascar for their support in this enriching artistic adventure as well as to all our partners.
