Michael Häusler, Germany’s ambassador, reiterates the longevity of the Malagasy-German relationship.

The PGE brings a concrete vision focused on the country’s development. That is why Germany, as a long-standing partner, supports the goals of this policy.

One of the oldest partners of the island. In this context, the German ambassador, Michael Häusler, explains his country’s willingness to support Madagascar in its march towards development. Yesterday, during a meeting at Villa Berlin Ambohimiandra, he outlined his country’s projects in bilateral cooperation with the Big Island. On this occasion, the diplomat expressed his satisfaction with the general state policy established by President Andry Rajoelina and declared his readiness to collaborate with the government to achieve the objectives.

Michael Häusler views the PGE as an ambitious project that aligns with the strategic objectives of European cooperation, particularly Germany’s. “We support the objectives of this general state policy, a program that is, indeed, ambitious, but has good objectives,” he explained. This German support will be provided through various bilateral, European, or multilateral cooperations, in addition to other ongoing projects.

Portfolio
The PGE provides a more concrete and focused vision for the country’s development compared to the Madagascar Emergence Plan, explains the German diplomat. Therefore, the portfolio for financing from Germany is substantial, with an amount of 490 million euros. Bilateral cooperation between the two countries will be at the heart of German support in various areas such as renewable energies, the tourism sector, and biodiversity protection.

Regarding projects on renewable energies, the German ambassador specified that it will focus on rural electrification using climate-friendly technologies. A budget of 80 million euros is allocated for this purpose.

These significant investments reflect the continuity of the seduction strategy implemented by Germany towards African countries in recent years. It is worth noting that Germany was one of the first members of the international community to approve the outcome of the presidential election on November 16.

As a result, other countries followed suit. This approach is probably explained by the fact that Germany remains one of the main contributors to the European Union budget, providing 27% of its funding. During his speech, Michael Häusler also emphasized that his country was among the first to recognize Madagascar’s independence.
