French Ambassador and Diana Governor. The French Ambassador Arnaud Guillois stayed in the capital of the North for three days, accompanied by his wife and his close civilian and military collaborators. It is his third visit to Antsiranana since he was assigned to Madagascar. He had a very busy schedule. The diplomat and his delegation were received in audience by the regional authorities led by Governor Taciano Rakotomanga. He had a long discussion with the latter to take stock of the Franco-Malagasy relations that have existed for years. He indicated the triple objective of his visit. First, to enhance the Franco-Malagasy partnership in the economic field. That is why he visited a number of French companies that contribute to the prosperity of the region. It also has a human dimension as he visited associations and the Montagne d’Ambre. Finally, France has a major program for the preservation and protection of the environment, which is known to be important in Madagascar and the region. In addition to this, there is also maritime security. A very important aspect, as Antsiranana is a major port with global significance. Maritime Sovereignty The ambassador stated that France is always by Madagascar’s side to strengthen its maritime sovereignty because the two countries are neighbors in the Indian Ocean, along with La RĂ©union and Mayotte. “Many boats pass through the Mozambique Channel or the Indian Ocean due to events taking place in the Red Sea,” he continued. Regarding the Padeve project, a program that has been in existence for almost ten years, Arnaud Guillois clarified that it was a specific program that initially involved three agglomerations. Now, six cities benefit from the second program and each received 5000 to 6000 euros, including Antsiranana. It has worked well thanks to the support of mayors, governors, prefects, civil society… and has helped meet urban goals based on the requests made to the project. This is the case for the renovation of the Bazarikely market.
