Grave robbers abandoned their loot in the middle of nowhere. Abandoned by their buyer, they disappeared without a trace.
Discovery of unique human bones in the locality of Ampatalana Maheriraty in Farafangana. On Easter Monday, promenaders came across a significant amount of human bones, hidden in woven polyethylene bags. Upon closer examination, the individuals who made the discovery realized that they were long bones that had just been stolen from tombs. Without delay, the locals alerted the village chief who, in turn, informed the gendarmes.
Investigators quickly rushed to the scene. Upon examining the bags, they confirmed that they were indeed human bones. A total of twenty-three overflowing polyethylene bags were found. They were clean and tied, as if a delivery was about to be made. Each bag contained an average of thirty long bones. A quick count revealed nearly five hundred units. To expedite the search, the gendarmes searched the surrounding area but the bags were gathered in one place.
Buried
Accompanied by the villagers, they checked the tombs around the village but found no signs of forced entry. However, the operation allowed them to deduce that these bones were stolen elsewhere, from a location far from the village of Ampatalana Maheriraty, and that the grave robbers had abandoned them there when their buyers did not show up at the last moment. The local authorities decided to bury the bones on site until families whose tombs were vandalized came forward.
This discovery of human bones was one of the most significant. Indeed, the number of bags of bones abandoned by criminals usually ranges around two or three.
