The arrival of bancassurance services marks an advancement in the Malagasy financial landscape. This strategy responds to a potential but still weak demand.
The first bancassurance products were presented by banking operators and insurance services at Ambodivona, yesterday. It is based on a simple logic: banks are the natural custodians of their clients’ financial assets, while insurers provide protection against financial and non-financial risks. This complementarity has led to a gradual integration of the two sectors, offering benefits for both institutions and clients. Additionally, in addition to traditional bank loans, insurance service offers have attracted increasing interest among bank clients recently. They are aware of the likelihood of risks in the market and in daily life, even though it still only involves a limited number of people, and the sector has not yet reached its full potential at present. “Malagasy people in general are not used to anticipating future events, even those whose occurrence is certain, especially those likely to have a negative and inevitable impact,” emphasized Herintsalama Rajaonarivelo, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BNI Madagascar, who also has fifteen years of experience in the insurance sector.
Synergy
Three initial bancassurance products have emerged from a collaboration between BNI Madagascar bank and insurer Allianz: death and disability insurance, insurance for rolling stock, and insurance for stock. “This insurance can be integrated as a whole or separately as soon as there is leasing financing for rolling stock or other eligible assets, as well as for stock financing requests. With every loan subscription in the bank, self-employed workers have the option to request insurance. The guarantees offered cover the insured goods, providing peace of mind to clients in the face of potential unexpected events. Additionally, these products are entirely digital, with a simplified and digitized subscription process,” explained Issam, Director of Transactional and Specialized Services at BNI Madagascar.
For clients, bancassurance allows them to benefit from preferential rates or discounts on insurance premiums by combining multiple products. “In this alliance between BNI and Allianz, we will combine forces to create synergy between banking and insurance services, thus providing a distribution channel for services and advice to customers,” explained BNI’s General Manager, Alexandre Mey.
