The Malagasy Women Writers League currently has more than six members
The Malagasy Women Writers League was officially launched yesterday, marking a new era for female literature in the country. This initiative highlights the talent of Malagasy women writers and their valuable contributions to promoting reading.
United by words. The official launch of the Malagasy Women Writers League (LFEM) took place yesterday at the Analakely Municipal Library. This initiative, spearheaded by Lalao-Elina Razanadriaka, a renowned writer and editor, comes after her inspiring return from the founding congress of the African Women Writers League on March 9.
The LFEM currently has six prominent members, including iconic figures such as Lalao-Elina Razanadriaka, president of the association, Na Hassi, a recognized slam poet and author, Rakemba, a professional storyteller, translator, and editor, as well as other remarkable talents like Voniary, Vony Ranala, and Ravaka Mihamina. “The association is closely linked to the African Women Writers League, with our president being a member of that league. The idea of bringing together Malagasy women writers stemmed from this connection. Membership in the association is done through sponsorship, and even before its official creation, we have already organized reading promotion activities in the Analamanga region,” emphasizes Ravaka Mihamina, a member of the LFEM.
Female talent. The ambitious goals of the LFEM include promoting reading across the country, producing literary works that highlight the talent of Malagasy women writers, and having a positive impact on the environment, society, and economy through books and literature. Large-scale national and continental projects, such as joint publications, are being developed to showcase Malagasy literature.
This initiative showcases the cultural richness of Madagascar and highlights Malagasy female writing, its talent, and the value of its works. On March 2, at the Analakely Municipal Library, LFEM members will present their first exhibition, offering the general public a glimpse of their works, from their early creations to the most recent ones. “This exhibition aims to promote reading among Malagasy children and enrich our knowledge,” explains Ravaka Mihamina. In addition to promoting reading, the LFEM is also involved in activities aimed at protecting children’s rights, demonstrating its commitment to the entire Malagasy society.
