The publication of the results of the legislative elections could occur before June 26, Lalatiana Rakotondrazafy stated in her weekly TV show.
Meanwhile, the National Independent Electoral Commission (Ceni) stated that it is ready for the election process.
Yesterday, during a television show, Lalatiana Rakotondrazafy, Minister of Technical Education and Vocational Training and government spokesperson, announced that the results of the legislative elections are expected to be released before the national holiday. In her weekly show on national channels, the spokesperson explained that with the provisional results from Ceni expected on June 8, it is likely that the deputies will be elected by June 26. On the elections preparation front, Ceni is all set with the budget and logistics for the upcoming legislative elections.
Sufficient budget: Dama Andrianarisedo, president of the National Independent Electoral Commission (Ceni), described the budget for organizing the legislative elections as sufficient. The budget does not include a section for printing unique ballots. During the first sharing session of the commission on the progress of the electoral process in Alarobia yesterday, the Ceni president stated that discussions are underway with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on the possible printing of unique ballots abroad. “We are currently in discussion with the UNDP. Our aim is to print the unique ballots abroad,” he explained. The Ceni president clarified that no final decision has been made yet, and once a decision is reached, the commission will communicate it.
With the external printing of unique ballots, Dama Andrianarisedo believes that the forty-four billion ariary provided by the government to Ceni is sufficient for conducting the legislative elections. In practice, the printing of sensitive documents during the last electoral deadlines was done abroad, as was the case in the last presidential election.
Recommendations: Despite discussions with the UNDP, one of Ceni’s technical and financial partners, questions remain about its relationship with other Technical and Financial Partners (PTFs) in the country. Regarding the recommendations from these PTFs, particularly the European Union, the Ceni president stated that most of the recommendations for the commission have been implemented. He cited the example of fokontany presidents who were previously electoral bureau presidents. Following the recommendations, these fokontany chiefs are no longer allowed to be bureau presidents. He also emphasized that most of the PTF recommendations are aimed at the government. However, the fact that the UNDP is ready to contribute to the electoral process demonstrates the good cooperation between Ceni and its partners.
Several personalities and political actors were present at yesterday’s sharing session. Institutional leaders, government members, and election candidates were seen at the event. The presence of TIM, represented by Rina Randriamasinoro, the party’s secretary general and a candidate for the Tana IV district, was noted, while other actors from different political groups were absent.
Double celebration: Ceni is pleased with the outcome of the annual voter list revision (RALE). According to Dama Andrianarisedo, this RALE has seen the largest increase in the number of voters in years, with over four hundred thousand new voters registered. Additionally, the election preparation body also celebrates the publication of decrees related to the legislative elections. Furthermore, its president expresses his determination to successfully fulfill his mission in preparing for the legislative elections.
