The weather could deteriorate in the East of Madagascar at the beginning of next week. The remnants of Storm Eleanor could affect Madagascar, according to meteorological forecasts yesterday. “The system will approach our coasts as it moves towards the Northeast. Its remnants are expected to land in the Center-East on Monday. There is no cyclone alert in relation to Eleanor. However, if conditions are favorable for heavy rains, we will issue a warning. Keep an eye on the weather,” said Lahatra Mampionona, a forecaster at the Meteorology Directorate.
This system is about to weaken in the Indian Ocean, about 1000 km east of Madagascar. The environmental conditions in which it is evolving are no longer favorable for possible reintensification.
In addition, the North of Madagascar is on alert. The intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) will bring heavy rains to the regions of Diana, Sava, Sofia, Bongolava, Betsiboka, and the districts of Ankazobe and Andilamena, until today. Precipitations ranging from 40 to 90 mm could fall within 24 hours in these regions, according to the Meteorology Directorate.
