Yesterday, Mikakely was buried in Manandriana Avaradrano, leaving a huge void in his family and especially among his artist friends, as Mikakely was a master of the bass guitar.
“A legend has passed away,” says artist Princio. The passing of Brice Mick Angelo Raoel leaves a great void in his family, with Mikakely being the pillar of it. During his funeral in Manandriana Avaradrano, his artist friends and his eldest son, Kevin Raoel, playing the drums, bid farewell to Mikakely, thus respecting his last wish not to sadden people at his death. A atmosphere of contemplation and respect enveloped the small courtyard of his house, where a moving prayer was recited before he was accompanied to his final resting place.
In a gesture of deep symbolism, his family, friends, and relatives, with his body at the forefront, headed to the Eglise Ecar Saint Alexandre Ambohimena Ambatofotsy church, where Mikakely was baptized, about 2 km from his house. The pain of his wife, who fought tirelessly for two months to get the necessary help for his hospitalization and surgery, was palpable. Finding herself alone with her children, she felt the immense weight of Mikakely’s absence, recalling their 25 years of life together. The entrance to the church was a poignant moment, marked by the widow’s tears and the unwavering support of their artist friends, including Samoëla, Princio, the Zay group, Bodo, Lily, Voary, and many others.
Encouragement
Before the start of the mass, despite her bravery during the hospital treatment, Mikakely’s wife, Hanta Raoel, succumbed to emotion and lost consciousness, overwhelmed by sadness. Despite this heartbreaking episode, the mass in honor of Mikakely continued with words of encouragement from the priest, offering spiritual support to the grieving family as well as urging family and friends to accept his departure as a transition to eternity. “It’s not a final goodbye, but a see you later, because our life is conditioned by time and space, just like Mikakely’s,” the priest said.
At the end of the mass, the Taninketsa choir of this church, led by Mikakely since 2015, performed his favorite song, “Ray o, mahatalanjona, Endrey ny asanao ry Ray.” Mikakely was then buried in Manandriana, near his house, to rest eternally. Beyond his death, his children will perpetuate his musical legacy. “The music our father passed down to us did not die with him. He entrusted us with the mission of continuing his work, and we have mastered his instruments self-taught, just like him,” concludes his son Kevin Raoel.
