Seventy-seven years after the 1947 insurrection, the spirit of patriotism remains intact. In order to perpetuate this spirit, Andry Rajoelina passes on the flame of patriotism to the youth.

“The patriotism, engine of development” was the slogan of the seventy-seventh edition of the commemoration of the insurrection of March 29, 1947. The brave martyrs of the country were honored yesterday throughout the island. The President of the Republic, Andry Rajoelina, was present at the Mausoleum of Avaratr’Ambohitsaina to lay wreaths in honor of the past patriots and to pass on the torch of past struggles to the younger generation, in order to perpetuate the sense of patriotism that should reign within each citizen. During his speech, the President reiterated the importance of love for the motherland for the goal of the country’s development. According to him, the lives sacrificed in the various struggles will not be in vain. He also emphasizes that the lack of consideration and contempt for these struggles will not be tolerated, even for the sacrifices of the fighters of that time.

“The lives lost and the blood shed by our ancestors are important. Therefore, we will not accept any contempt or underestimation of all the struggles that have taken place throughout our history.” These were the words of Andry Rajoelina yesterday at the Mausoleum.

On this day of commemoration, the occupant of Iavoloha took the opportunity to grant assistance to the veterans and their families present at the scene. At the same time, he passed on the banner of patriotism to the youth as a transmission of patriotic fire. Heads of institutions, government members, and several other personalities were present in Ambohitsaina for the occasion.

Commemoration in two parts

“On my part, no one can take away my love for our country. It is in this perspective that I allow myself to pass on [to the youth] the torch and the banner of patriotism,” exclaimed Andry Rajoelina yesterday. Before leaving, he made it a point to hand over the assistance to the veterans in person. At the end of the official commemoration ceremony, the President of the Republic took the road to the north of the island to join Christian Ntsay, the Prime Minister, and be at the bedside of the victims of Cyclone Gamane.

Regarding the commemoration, the ceremony continued at Ambohijatovo under the leadership of Richard Ramanambitana, PDS of the Commune urbaine d’Antananarivo. Most of the personalities present at the Mausoleum came to Ambohijatovo to lay wreaths on the stele dedicated to the Movement democrate for the renovation of Madagascar (MDRM). The PDS declared that “this notion of patriotism is part of the golden rules of the CUA. My wish is that this year’s commemoration brings a renewal for the country’s progress.”
