A shower of stars. Three decrees dated February 23, 2024, decree the appointment of thirty military and gendarmes to the ranks of army corps generals, divisional generals, and brigade generals. The Armed Forces thus have two new army corps generals. These are the two general officers appointed to the government: army corps general Lala Monja Delphin Sahivelo, Minister of the Armed Forces, and army corps general Andriantsarafara Andriamitovy Rakotondrazaka, Minister Delegate in charge of the national gendarmerie. For the former, the appointment is effective from November 1, 2023, and for the latter, from December 1, 2023. With generals Richard Rakotonirina and Josoa Rakotoarijaona, former Ministers of National Defense, the army now has three army corps generals still in service. On the side of the national gendarmerie, there are currently two, including General Serge Gellé, former Secretary of State in charge of the national gendarmerie. Regarding divisional generals, eleven were appointed on February 13, 2024, including seven for the army and four for the gendarmerie. According to confidential information, one of the four gendarmes newly appointed divisional generals will become the next Commander of the national gendarmerie, a position that has been vacant since the appointment of General Rakotondrazaka to the government. Seventeen brigade generals also complete the list of newly promoted generals, with ten generals for the army, one medical general, and six gendarme generals.
