This weekend, Malagasy artists were surprised to discover their nominations in various categories during the first edition of the Afromada Music Awards.
Excitement was at its peak this weekend as the official list of nominations for the first edition of the Afromada Music Awards was revealed. Thirty-four Malagasy artists found themselves in the spotlight, nominated in different categories. Among them are well-known names such as Wada & Yoongs and Ambondrona, competing for the title of best group in Africa, as well as emerging talents like Madmax and MK DI, in the running for the title of best upcoming artist in Africa and many more.
“We were completely surprised this morning when we found out about our nomination. We don’t even know the criteria used by the organizers. Perhaps it is related to our notoriety and our success with hit songs like ‘Malalako’. We are extremely grateful for this nomination and we ask for the support of all Malagasy people to vote for us,” said Madmax’s manager.
The artists’ reactions were immediate.
“We don’t know exactly how the competition works or the voting process, but this morning, we saw our nominations circulating on Facebook and we shared them with gratitude. I believe this recognition reflects the commitment we share with our audience. A big thank you to the organizers and our fans for their support,” added Yoongs.
Online voting is currently open on the official Afromada Music Awards website until the awards ceremony on June 1st and 2nd at Canal Olympia Andohatapenaka.
More than fifty-eight African countries are participating in this event, which promises to be a memorable celebration of African musical diversity and talent. In the interest of fairness, 60% of the votes will be in the hands of the public, through votes on Facebook and the website, while the remaining 40% will be determined by a specialized jury.
“Afromada is much more than just an awards ceremony, it is a major cultural and musical event taking place in Madagascar, highlighting artists and showbiz figures from various backgrounds. We have nominated those who shape and energize the African music and cultural industry, including Madagascar and its diaspora,” emphasized the organizer.
