Two individuals targeted an albino child as their victim. The abduction was reported in the district of Mananjary on a Tuesday, in the child’s grandfather’s house.

A series of kidnappings have been reported in recent times in four regions, from Betsiboka to Vatovavy, passing through Analamanga and Melaky.

Specifically, on a Tuesday in the middle of the night, around 11:30 pm, in Ambaravatry-Ambohimanarivo, Mananjary district, the victim was an 11-year-old albino girl. Freshly gathered information yesterday unfortunately revealed that the child is still in the hands of the kidnappers.

No further details have been provided regarding any conversations that may have or may not have taken place between the criminals and her family. That night, two unidentified men entered her grandfather’s house where she was sleeping. In fact, she was asleep there. The men immediately took her and forcefully took her with them.

Neighbours heard a noise, but could not imagine that an abduction had taken place. They panicked as soon as the grandfather knocked on every door asking for help. By that time, the kidnappers had already disappeared into the night.

Called to intervene, four gendarmes with their brigade commander joined the scene. The residents and they thoroughly searched the paths that the criminals could have taken. Their efforts yielded no results. Five more gendarmes from the Antsenavolo brigade left the south of the region to reinforce the operation. Two officers joined them to lead the search and investigation. They are still on site with a group of civilians, according to the latest contacts which were interrupted several times due to lack of phone network at their location.

Albino children are increasingly vulnerable in terms of security. Some parents have already entrusted their sons or daughters to the gendarmerie or a specialized institution as is the case in the southeast. All of this is due to the fear of being kidnapped, sold, or killed for organs, especially the eyes. Just in January, this kind of albino trafficking was uncovered in the city of Toliara.
