Yesterday, before dawn, a bush taxi overturned near Ambalamanakana. Most of its occupants were more scared than hurt. Eight people were hospitalized.
National road number 7 was the scene of a traffic accident that is astonishing. The disaster occurred early yesterday morning around 4 o’clock. A Mercedes Sprinter bush taxi overturned on the side of the road on a winding and twisting road.
In a scramble, the passengers managed to extricate themselves from the vehicle as best as they could. Eight injured individuals, whose conditions seemed concerning, were admitted to the hospital. As soon as they were freed, they were evacuated in the first passing vehicles at the scene. No deaths are reported.
This accident occurred at the height of Ambalamanakana. The bush taxi involved in this traffic accident was traveling between Fianarantsoa and Morondava.
The cause of this roadside departure has not yet been precisely determined. No mechanical failure was reported, and passengers did not mention any particular circumstances.
Fatigue while driving is nevertheless mentioned as a possible cause of the accident. Material damages were recorded. Furthermore, the human toll could have been heavier if the bush taxi had not stopped in time before overturning into the ravine at the edge of which it ended up. As a result, all the people trapped on board were able to extricate themselves.
The vehicle came to rest on its left side. Gendarmes on the scene went to help the passengers and make the report. The driver and his assistant have already been questioned.
Some of the injured were placed under medical observation. Meanwhile, the gendarmes continue their investigation to shed light on the accident. Passengers who were more scared than hurt were able to continue their journey to their destination after transshipment. Testimonies reveal that the accident could be attributed to driving conditions because visibility was not favorable.
