The third and final term of the 2026 academic year has opened in Tororo District amid low attendance, raising concern among school authorities and parents as schools reopened on Monday.
Preliminary reports from several primary and secondary schools in the district indicate that dozens of learners had not reported back to class despite the official start of the term.
School authorities who spoke to Monitor attributed the low turnout to financial difficulties faced by parents, lack of school fees and long distances to schools.
