Governor Alassane Traoré was pleased with the availability of sugar on the market and the compliance with prices by traders

Ségou, March 18 (AMAP) The Governor of the Ségou Region, Police Inspector General Alassane Traoré, visited three witness stores on Monday to ensure the availability and compliance of sugar prices, observed by AMAP.

In the visited stores, there is no shortage of sugar or excessive price increases, and reserves are sufficient to meet consumer demand during this month of Ramadan. The indicative ceiling prices in the witness stores are 27,500 CFA francs for a 50 kg bag, 28,500 CFA francs for the same quantity in convenience stores, and 575 CFA francs to 600 CFA francs per kg.

Governor Alassane Traoré not only was pleased with the availability of sugar on the market, but also with the adherence to price ceilings by traders. This, according to him, will allow the population to “spend this month of Ramadan in serenity.”

Mr. Traoré thanked all stakeholders: the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and economic operators (wholesale and retail traders) who contributed to achieving this result.

For his part, the acting director of the Department of Commerce, Consumer Affairs, and Competition in Ségou, Yacouba Yalcouyé, assured that inspections will continue on the ground to ensure price compliance.

He urged the population “to denounce all unscrupulous traders engaged in speculation.”

The Governor’s strong delegation also included the mayor of the Urban Commune of Ségou, Nouhoum Diarra, the Circle Prefect, Daouda Diarra, the acting director of the regional Department of Commerce, Consumer Affairs, and the president of the Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Ibrahima Doucouré.
