President Museveni recently made a significant appointment by naming events promoter and active member of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Balaam Barugahara, as the state minister for Gender, Labour, and Social Development in charge of youth. This decision marks a new chapter in Barugahara’s career, as he takes on a role with crucial responsibilities and expectations.

Barugahara, known for his successful business ventures and strong support for Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the First Son, has played a significant role in the formation of the MK Movement, which later transformed into the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU). With Gen Muhoozi as its chairman, this pressure group has made considerable strides under Barugahara’s leadership.

In addition to Barugahara’s appointment, President Museveni also announced a reshuffle that included the appointment of a new Principal Private Secretary (PPS) and his deputy. These changes reflect the President’s commitment to making adjustments that align with the government’s priorities and vision for the future.

Dr. Kenneth Omona, who previously served as the PPS, has now been appointed as the minister of state in charge of Northern Uganda. This move highlights the government’s focus on addressing the needs and concerns of the region, under Omona’s leadership.

Furthermore, Gen Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, who held the position of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), has been appointed as the minister of state for trade. This decision signals a new era in the defense sector, with the anticipation of a new CDF being named in the near future.

President Museveni’s statement on the cabinet reshuffle emphasized the authority vested in him by the Ugandan Constitution, which allows for such appointments and adjustments to be made in line with the government’s mandate. This announcement signifies the government’s commitment to ensuring effective governance and leadership across different sectors.

Additionally, the appointment of Kitgum Woman MP, Lilian Aber, as the minister of State for relief, disaster preparedness, and refugees demonstrates the government’s focus on addressing humanitarian issues and ensuring the welfare of vulnerable populations. Aber’s dedication to the NRM and her support for Gen Muhoozi have paved the way for this significant role in her political career.

Moreover, Sironko Woman MP Florence Wamala Nambozo’s appointment as the new State Minister for Karamoja affairs, replacing Agnes Nandutu, underscores the government’s commitment to addressing the specific needs of the Karamoja region. Nambozo’s leadership will play a crucial role in advancing development and addressing challenges in the region.

Overall, President Museveni’s recent appointments reflect a strategic approach to governance and leadership, with a focus on addressing key issues, promoting development, and ensuring effective management across different sectors. The new ministers are expected to bring fresh perspectives, ideas, and initiatives to their respective roles, contributing to the government’s overall objectives and vision for Uganda’s future.
