The International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Libya has been conducting its Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) program to collect data on migrants in the country. During round 50 of data collection, which took place from October to December 2023, the program identified a total of 706,369 migrants from 45 different nationalities across 100 Libyan municipalities.

This latest round of data collection showed a slight increase in the number of migrants in Libya compared to the previous round. In round 49, the DTM program had identified 697,532 migrants, indicating an increase to 706,369 migrants in round 50. This data was released by IOM in a statement regarding the findings of the DTM program in Libya.

The presence of such a large number of migrants from various nationalities highlights the complex migration situation in Libya. Migrants in Libya face a range of challenges, including instability, conflict, and lack of access to basic services. The DTM program plays a crucial role in tracking and monitoring the movement of migrants in the country, providing valuable data for humanitarian agencies and policymakers.

By collecting data on migrants in Libya, the DTM program helps to better understand the needs and vulnerabilities of this population. This information can then be used to inform the design and implementation of programs and interventions to support migrants in the country. Additionally, the data collected by the DTM program can help to improve coordination among humanitarian agencies and government entities working to address the needs of migrants in Libya.

The DTM program also provides valuable insights into the demographics of migrants in Libya. By collecting information on the nationalities of migrants, as well as their locations within the country, the program can identify trends and patterns in migration flows. This information can be used to develop targeted interventions to address the specific needs of different migrant populations.

In addition to providing data on the number and demographics of migrants in Libya, the DTM program also tracks the living conditions of migrants. This includes information on shelter, access to food and water, health services, and other essential needs. By monitoring these indicators, the program can identify areas where additional support is needed and work to improve conditions for migrants in Libya.

Overall, the DTM program in Libya plays a critical role in monitoring and responding to the needs of migrants in the country. By collecting data on migration flows, demographics, and living conditions, the program provides valuable information for humanitarian agencies and policymakers working to support migrants in Libya. The recent increase in the number of migrants identified in round 50 of data collection highlights the ongoing challenges faced by migrants in Libya and the importance of continued efforts to address their needs.
