The Tripoli-based Libyan government’s Cabinet Office officially launched electronic visas for foreigners today, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to streamline visa processes and combat fraud. The launch event was attended by key government officials, including the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, the Minister of Labor and Rehabilitation, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other department heads.

During the launch event, the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs highlighted the importance of the new electronic visa system, which will allow foreigners to apply for visas online starting the following day. He commended the Telecommunications Holding Company, the Passports and Nationality Authority, and the General Information Authority for their collaboration in making this electronic service a reality, noting that it is the first of its kind in Libya.

In addition to the launch of electronic visas for foreigners, May 1 was announced as the date for the electronic visa system for expatriate workers coming to Libya. This system will streamline the process for expatriate workers and help eliminate bureaucracy and fraud, ultimately contributing to better organization and oversight of foreign workers in the country.

The implementation of electronic visas is in line with the Prime Minister’s directives to the Passports Authority and the Ministry of Labour and Rehabilitation to simplify and digitize the visa issuance process. By transitioning to electronic visas, the government hopes to improve efficiency, transparency, and security in the visa application process.

In addition to the launch of electronic visas for foreigners, the Tripoli Libyan government also announced plans to issue electronic visas to reciprocating countries, as well as visa exemptions for citizens of Egypt and Turkey. These measures are part of ongoing efforts to enhance international cooperation and facilitate travel and trade between Libya and its neighboring countries.

Overall, the introduction of electronic visas represents a significant step forward for the Libyan government in modernizing its visa systems and improving the overall experience for foreign visitors and expatriate workers. By embracing digital technology and streamlining visa processes, Libya is positioning itself as a more attractive destination for international travelers and expatriates, while also strengthening security and oversight of foreign workers in the country.
