The Tripoli-based Libyan Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock recently held a meeting to discuss the launch of a major initiative to plant 100 million seedlings across Libya. The meeting took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Tripoli and marked the beginning of the implementation phase of the Ministry of Planning’s ambitious plan.

During the meeting, several key recommendations were made to ensure the successful implementation of the initiative. These recommendations included expediting the process, preparing necessary equipment and seedlings, and taking advantage of the current season before it ends. The Ministry emphasized that the implementation of this initiative would not only contribute to the development of vegetation but also play a significant role in achieving sustainable development, enhancing food security, and preserving the climate.

The Ministry confirmed that the implementation of the initiative would commence next month, signaling a positive step towards realizing the goal of planting 100 million seedlings in various parts of the country. This initiative is expected to have far-reaching impacts on the environment and community, reflecting the government’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development.

In addition to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock’s initiative, several other tree-planting campaigns have been launched in Libya to further promote environmental sustainability and greenhouse gas removal. The National Oil Corporation (NOC) has initiated a campaign to plant a million trees, while Oilinvest has launched a forestation initiative to remove greenhouse gases. The Ministry of Planning has also confirmed the development of an integrated plan to plant 100 million trees by 2030, with the aim of activating this initiative through annual tree planting seasons.

Various regions in Libya have also taken steps to contribute to the tree-planting efforts. The city of Sirte has launched a tree-planting campaign, while Gharian plans to plant one million olive trees and 500,000 almond trees. The country as a whole aims to plant 20 million olive trees through the private sector, reflecting a collaborative effort to achieve environmental sustainability and promote biodiversity.

Overall, the tree-planting initiatives in Libya highlight the government’s commitment to environmental conservation, sustainable development, and addressing climate change. By planting millions of seedlings and trees across the country, Libya is taking proactive steps towards creating a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.
