Chairman of the Ruling Unity Party (UP), Rev. Luther Tarpeh, has responded to criticisms against his appointment as the Chair of the Board of the National Port Authority (NPA) by President Joseph Nyumah Boakai. Tarpeh emphasized that his appointment is a call to serve the nation and contribute to its development.
In an interview, Tarpeh expressed that his acceptance of the appointment is driven by a sense of duty to Liberia and a desire to utilize his position for the benefit of the nation. He emphasized that his goal is to leverage his position for the benefit of young men and women who had worked hard for President Boakai’s victory, as well as to run the party and create a brand with a national appeal.
President Boakai appointed Tarpeh to serve as the NPA Board Chair earlier this week. Tarpeh stressed the need for rapid response and effective governance to address the social and economic needs of ordinary Liberians. He expressed his commitment to working alongside the new Managing Director of the NPA, Mr. Sekou Dukuly, to enhance the functionality and competitiveness of Liberia’s ports in Sub-Saharan African regions, ultimately contributing to the nation’s progress and the well-being of its citizens.
Responding to rumors that his visit to the USA was an escape after some UP partisans protested for jobs outside President Boakai’s residence, Tarpeh clarified that it was solely to reunite with his family, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to Liberia. He emphasized that his acceptance of the appointment is an act of service to the country and not just a job to put food on his table, highlighting the pressing social and economic needs of the people as a priority.
Tarpeh also addressed misconceptions regarding his motivations, dismissing suggestions that he sought government employment for personal gain. Instead, he emphasized his dedication to building a Unity Party that prioritizes deliverables, development, and responsive leadership, particularly in addressing the social and economic challenges faced by ordinary Liberians. He expressed his goal to build a Unity Party that stands as a beacon of hope for all Liberians, regardless of their political affiliations, and to deliver tangible results that address the pressing social and economic challenges facing the nation.
In concluding his response, Tarpeh reaffirmed his commitment to serving Liberia and advancing the goals of the Unity Party through his appointment as the NPA Board Chair. He emphasized his dedication to the nation’s progress and the well-being of its citizens.
