Emmanuel Wise Jipoh reported that the Tri Buchanan Development Corporation and their partners have dedicated Liberia’s first post-war learning center on February 23, 2024. The learning center comes with a modern library situated near the Paynesville City Corporation (PCC).

The Managing Director of TRI Buchanan Development Corporation, Mr. Bleejay Innis, described the facility as their largest project, consisting of modern libraries, business incubation centers, sports and recreation facilities, among others. The total cost of the 9,000 square feet facility is approximately US$ 1.5 million and is currently 85% complete. The dedication of the facility is set for today, with the formal opening to follow subsequently.

Mr. Innis emphasized the significance of the project, stating that it is a milestone for the nation and a transformative journey for the education sector. He also expressed his hope that it will boost the capabilities of Liberian construction contractors and build trustworthiness in the local contractors within the public space. Mr. Innis acknowledged the challenges facing Liberian construction companies, including the lack of trust from clients, lack of transparency, and bidding for projects they cannot execute, ultimately resulting in failure to meet the needs and standards of clients.

He urged local construction companies to hold themselves up to a standard and erase negative perceptions against them, advising them to overcome such challenges by proving the trustworthiness of their work. Mr. Innis also stressed the need for the new administration at the Ministry of Public Works to cultivate a stronger working relationship with Liberian-owned companies, which he emphasized as crucial for the growth and development of the construction industry.

Project-site engineer, Mr. Dee Shadrick K. Yoko, highlighted the integral role that the Liberian learning center will play in reshaping the Liberian education sector. He stated that the learning center is keen on children’s development as well as molding the minds of architects. The project consists of three facilities designed to reshape the educational landscape of Liberia while providing access to learning resources for Paynesville and beyond.

The Liberia Learning Center is supported by Canadian-based charity Empowerment Squared, Rotary Club Sinkor, and Scotland Hamilton-based architects mcCallumSather. It will offer a variety of programs such as information literacy, educational programming, computer training, life skills, personal and career path development, and peer-to-peer mentorship.

In conclusion, the dedication of Liberia’s first post-war learning center is a significant achievement and marks a transformative journey in the education sector. The facility, with its modern library and various amenities, represents a milestone for the nation and a boost for the capabilities of local construction contractors. It is expected to play an integral role in reshaping the educational landscape of Liberia and providing access to learning resources for the community. The collaboration of local and international partners in this endeavor underscores the importance and impact of the project.
