Thales, a global leader in advanced technologies in the domains of Defense & Security, Aeronautics & Space, and Digital Identity & Security, has announced the appointment of Yan Levy as the General Manager of Thales in Morocco. With 33 years of experience within the Thales group, Yan Levy previously held the position of business development for the African continent and was responsible for the public security and digital identity markets. He began his career in air defense and tactical radio communication before transitioning into major security projects. With a Master’s degree in Physics-Chemistry and an MBA in Computer Science, Yan Levy has also been an ambassador for Thales Solidarity since 2015.
In his new role, Yan Levy will be managing the development of Thales’ activities in Morocco, with a specific focus on cybersecurity. Morocco is recognized as a center of excellence in cybersecurity, and Thales aims to leverage this by continuing its investment in research and support for local talent. The company has a strong commitment to developing close relationships with Moroccan universities to train individuals for international careers.
Thales has been present in Morocco for over 40 years and currently employs more than 135 people in the Kingdom, with its headquarters located in Rabat. The company has been actively involved in the development of the Moroccan ecosystem, with initiatives such as the opening of a cybersecurity operational center in 2022, the establishment of a center of excellence specializing in metal additive manufacturing in Casablanca, and the provision of the first national biometric identity card in Morocco based on contactless smart card technology.
Furthermore, Thales is a key supplier of avionics and on-board electronics for aircraft manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus. The company is also a strategic partner for the national airline Royal Air Maroc, providing in-flight entertainment systems for their Boeing 737 and 787 fleets.
Thales aims to further anchor its presence in Morocco and expand its reach to other African countries, starting from Morocco. The company signed an agreement with the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform to recruit 150 people by 2027 to bolster its cybersecurity activities in the Kingdom.
With a strong focus on Research & Development, Thales invests close to €4 billion annually in key areas such as quantum technologies, Edge computing, 6G, and cybersecurity. The Group has 81,000 employees in 68 countries and generated sales of €18.4 billion in 2023.
