Employees of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) on Bushrod Island adjacent to the Freeport of Monrovia have recently protested against the administration, demanding the dismissal of Director General, Madam Emma Metieh Glassco, for alleged malpractices. The employees accused the administration of systemic malpractices that have denied them available opportunities to pursue studies abroad.
One of the aggrieved employees, Patrick T. Wisseh, highlighted the low salary, lack of transportation, and feeding provided by the administration. As a trained professional responsible for collecting scientific data and monitoring fishing vessels in Liberian waters, Mr. Wisseh expressed disappointment in the administration’s treatment of the employees, particularly in denying them opportunities to pursue further studies abroad.
Additionally, another employee, Matthew W. Tokpah, pointed out the lack of insurance benefits for employees who work at sea, as well as discrepancies in the Daily Sustenance Allowance (DSA) provided by the administration. He also alleged that the Director General has refused to bring in more vessels for effective observation and has received payments from specific companies to prevent competition.
Furthermore, the Chief Driver for the NaFFA Boss, Blamah Sambullah, claimed that he was dismissed for refusing to support a specific political party and stated that his dismissal had nothing to do with disorderly conduct.
In response to these allegations, the NaFFA administration’s Head of Communication, Lewis Konoe, stated that the administration will respond via an official press release.
The employees’ protests and allegations against the NaFFA administration bring to light several issues relating to fair treatment, opportunities for advancement, and transparency in the organization. It is essential for the administration to address these concerns and provide a fair and supportive work environment for its employees.
The accusations against Madam Emma Metieh Glassco, particularly regarding alleged malpractices and unfair treatment of employees, raise significant concerns about the administration’s ethical conduct and management practices. It is crucial for the administration to address these allegations transparently and take appropriate action to address any wrongdoing.
Furthermore, the claims of political bias and mistreatment of employees due to their political affiliations are troubling and raise questions about the organization’s commitment to fair and equitable treatment of its staff members. It is important for the administration to ensure that employees are not subject to discrimination based on their political beliefs and that their professional qualifications and performance are the primary factors in employment decisions.
In conclusion, the protests and allegations against the NaFFA administration highlight the need for transparency, accountability, and fair treatment within the organization. It is essential for the administration to address these concerns and take appropriate action to ensure a supportive and equitable work environment for all employees. Only by addressing these issues can the NaFFA fulfill its mandate effectively and promote the well-being and professional development of its staff members.
