The Liberian National Police has made a significant breakthrough in the case of the death of Police Officer Amanda Nebo, with the arrest of a prime suspect. This development was announced by the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, Col. Gregory Coleman, who stated that the suspect is currently undergoing police interrogation.

Officer Nebo tragically lost her life on April 14, 2024, in a chilling incident that occurred around midnight. She was confronted by unidentified individuals who demanded her handbag, and when she resisted, she was fatally attacked, leading to her untimely demise.

There have been conflicting reports about the exact location of the incident, with some sources mentioning Barnesville Junction and others citing Dry Rice Market Junction. However, the apprehension of the suspect has provided crucial information that has led to the identification of additional suspects in the crime. Efforts are underway to apprehend these individuals, with plans to have them in custody within the next day or two.

To address the rise in crime, especially related to motorcycle offenses, the Police Chief outlined proactive measures implemented by the LNP. These measures go beyond resource deployment and include considerations to impose a curfew on motorcyclists to enhance safety measures for both riders and passengers.

Highlighting the importance of targeted interventions, Col. Coleman shared a recent incident where prompt action from a citizen prevented a potential tragedy involving motorcyclists armed with machetes. A woman had visited his office to report an incident she witnessed on Somalia Drive at 11:30 pm, where two motorcyclists were chasing a cyclist with machetes. She bravely intervened, maneuvering her vehicle between them to rescue the victim.

The Police IG acknowledged the prevalence of motorcycle-related crimes in the area and discussed plans to improve safety measures. He also mentioned that the Police are reviewing measures to address the situation and ensure public safety. The community will be informed of the measures to be implemented for crime reduction and public safety.

The update on the arrest of the prime suspect in the death of Police Officer Amanda Nebo demonstrates the commitment of the Liberian National Police to ensuring justice for the victims of crime. The proactive measures taken by the LNP to address rising crime rates, particularly related to motorcycle offenses, show their dedication to protecting the safety and well-being of the citizens. The collaboration between law enforcement and the community is essential in maintaining peace and order in Liberia.
