The General Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star (OES) carried out a charitable initiative on March 22, 2024, by providing donations to the Monrovia Central Prison and the Destiny Recovery program in Liberia. Led by Worthy Sister Sonia F Roberts as the General Grand Worthy Matron, the OES aims to support those in need through their charity program.

The donation package for the Monrovia Central Prison included essential items such as bags of rice, vegetable oil, sanitation pads, washing and bath soap, and Dettol, with a focus on meeting the needs of female inmates. This donation was intended to alleviate the challenging conditions faced by the inmates, including overcrowding, inadequate food supply, and a lack of proper health facilities.

During the presentation at the prison, Worthy Sister Roberts expressed empathy for the female inmates and encouraged them to remain hopeful and faithful. She emphasized the OES’s commitment to assisting vulnerable individuals in difficult circumstances, such as those in the prison system. The authorities at the Monrovia Central Prison expressed their gratitude to the OES for their generous donation and support.

At the Destiny Recovery Program, located on Somalia Drive, the OES provided resources such as zinc, rice, and cement to aid in the rehabilitation of young people struggling with drug addiction. With approximately 116 inmates, mostly youths, the program aims to transform individuals and help them overcome substance abuse. Worthy Sister Roberts commended the efforts of the authorities at the center and urged the youth to commit to the rehabilitation process for a better future.

Accompanied by other Grand Chapter Officers, including Worthy Sister Louis Kpoto, who also serves as the Minister of Health, the OES representatives visited the health facility at the Monrovia Central Prison. Worthy Sister Kpoto assured the inmates of the Ministry of Health’s commitment to improving conditions and the functionality of the health center to meet the health needs of the inmates.

The OES’s support and assistance to the Destiny Recovery Program were met with appreciation from the authorities, who highlighted the importance of combating drug abuse among the youth. The OES members were given a tour of the program’s facilities under construction, which will serve as a safe house for the rehabilitation and transformation of young people struggling with addiction.

In conclusion, the General Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star demonstrated its commitment to serving the community through impactful donations and support to vulnerable populations. The efforts of the OES in assisting both the Monrovia Central Prison and the Destiny Recovery Program reflect their dedication to promoting positive change and empowerment in Liberia.
