Liberia’s Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung is facing backlash and criticism from his kinsmen in Nimba County for failing to fulfill his campaign promises. This dissatisfaction stems from the allegations that Koung abandoned several development projects in the county during his time in the Legislature.

The people of Nimba County expressed their disappointment and frustration with Vice President Koung, citing the fact that he had not completed any of the projects he had initiated while serving in the House and Senate. Two specific school projects that Koung had earmarked during his time in the House never materialized, leaving citizens feeling let down by his unfulfilled promises.

After transitioning to the Senate, Koung allegedly broke ground for the construction of various projects, further raising the hopes and expectations of the people of Nimba County. However, once he assumed the role of Vice President, these projects were left incomplete and abandoned, leaving the community feeling deceived and disillusioned.

Two prominent citizens, Emmanuel Suah and Ericson Dahn, criticized Koung for using these uncompleted projects as campaign promises to sway voters in his favor. They highlighted proposed elementary schools, clinics, bridges, a town hall, a maternal waiting home, and theaters that Koung had promised to construct but failed to deliver on, despite breaking ground on these projects over six years ago.

In response to the citizens’ concerns, the chief of staff in the Vice President’s office, Prince Mankalo Gbieu, appeared on a community radio station in Nimba County to address the situation. Gbieu assured the public that Vice President Koung was committed to starting and completing all the projects he had initiated, providing a glimmer of hope for the community that these long-awaited developments would finally come to fruition.

As criticisms continue to mount against Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, it remains to be seen if he will follow through on his promises and regain the trust and support of the people of Nimba County. Only time will tell if Koung can rectify the disappointment and frustration that has been lingering within the community and fulfill the expectations that were set during his time in the Legislature.
