The authorities of Nimba University in Sanniquellie, Nimba County have vehemently dismissed reports alleging that faculty members are offering grades in exchange for sex or money. The administration of the university clarified that such accusations are baseless and untrue. The Communication Director of Nimba University, Rev. Alastair Zoreg, refuted the claims during an interview with The NEW DAWN on March 7, 2024, in Monrovia.
Rev. Zoreg also addressed other allegations, including the speculation that the University President, Dr. Jesse Noah Mongrue, was involved in issuing blank checks or making questionable withdrawals from the University’s account. He denied these accusations as well, emphasizing that the university upholds ethical standards and does not engage in any unethical practices.
Furthermore, the report of more than 80 students being placed on probation for failing to meet the minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.00 was also denied by Rev. Zoreg. He clarified that the grade sheets for the semester had not been released, and therefore, no students had been placed on probation at the time of the allegations.
The Chair of the university’s faculty, Theophilus G. Younquoi, reiterated the institution’s commitment to moral values and ethical conduct. He emphasized that Nimba University is a reputable institution that strives to instill the values necessary for the future generation. He highlighted that the accusation of faculty members engaging in inappropriate behavior contradicts the university’s mission and vision.
Recent accusations made by some students claimed that faculty members were demanding sexual favors in exchange for grades, while male students alleged that they were being asked for money by lecturers.
