The Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) Chairman, MulbahK. Morlu, has announced his resignation from his position as Chairman of the party. This decision comes amidst reports of a potential eviction of the former ruling Party, the Congress For Democratic Change (CDC), from its current premises along Tubman Boulevard in Oldest Congo Town, Monrovia.

In a message posted on his official social media pages, former CDC Chairman Morlu expressed his reasons for stepping down. He highlighted the challenges faced during the CDC’s governance over the past six years and mentioned that there were some partisans within the party who were undermining his leadership. Despite his unwavering commitment to the CDC, Morlu stated that the diminishing opportunity for him to effectively fulfill his role as the People’s Chairman forced him to resign. As an advocate dedicated to supporting the people, he found it disheartening to encounter constraints that limited his ability to carry out the responsibilities of the chairmanship.

In his resignation letter, Morlu emphasized the importance of maintaining peace within the CDC and Liberia. The resignation coincided with reports of a potential closure of the CDC headquarters due to unpaid rent over the last six years. Court documents revealed that the CDC owed its landlord a significant amount of US$500,000.

Efforts to reach the Party’s Secretary General, former Monrovia City Mayor Jefferson Koijee, for comment were unsuccessful as his phone rang endlessly without a response. However, the court documents confirmed the CDC’s indebtedness to its landlord. Amidst rumors of the headquarters’ closure, CDC political leader and former President George Manneh Weah returned home after nearly two months of absence on a family vacation.

Morlu’s resignation and the financial challenges facing the CDC raise questions about the party’s future direction and stability. As they navigate these issues, maintaining unity and addressing internal challenges will be crucial for the CDC’s continued success. The party will need to address its financial obligations and ensure effective leadership to move forward in fulfilling its mission and serving the people of Liberia.
