In the midst of a threatening statement from Nimba County Senator Prince Y. Johnson regarding the potential establishment of a war and economic crimes court in Liberia, citizens of Nimba County are urging Senator Johnson to voluntarily submit himself to the court if it is created. These citizens believe that Senator Johnson is not the only Liberian who participated in the 14 years of civil war that caused significant destruction of lives and property.

During a call to the State of the Nation program on Truth FM, Nimba citizens shared that Senator Johnson had a valid reason for his involvement in the civil war for nine months and should be willing to face the court if it is established. They emphasized the importance of Senator Johnson going through the legal process to clear his name from any accusations of war crimes and crimes against humanity that have been made against him and other leaders during the civil unrest.

The citizens expressed their disapproval of Senator Johnson’s claim that ex-generals were banding together to shield him from any potential war crimes court proceedings. They explained that the establishment of the war and economic crimes court in Liberia is essential to ensure that both victims and perpetrators have the opportunity to seek justice. They believe that the court will serve as a deterrent to others who may consider committing similar atrocities in the future.

Furthermore, the citizens of Nimba County reaffirmed their support for Senator Johnson as their leader and encouraged him to confront his accusers without fear when the time comes. They advised Senator Johnson to remain focused and not to threaten the peace of the country with his public statements.

The citizens’ call for Senator Johnson to cooperate with any future legal proceedings comes in response to his recent public remarks opposing the establishment of a war crimes court. Senator Johnson warned against President Boakai interfering with the country’s peace by repealing the Amnesty Law, stating that ex-rebels in rural areas would resist government efforts to hold them accountable.

Senator Johnson highlighted the presence of rebel generals and combatants in Nimba County who are prepared to defend him if necessary. He emphasized that Nimba County had been declared an enemy of the state by past administrations, and that the ex-combatants in the region played a significant role in Liberia’s liberation.

In conclusion, Senator Johnson questioned the need for a resolution from legislators when the country already had an Amnesty Law in place. He asserted that any attempts to target him or disturb his peace would be met with a reciprocal response from his supporters. The citizens of Nimba County urge Senator Johnson to face any legal challenges with courage and to prioritize the stability and unity of the country.
