Monrovia-March-18-TNR: Montserrado County District Number Four Representative Michael Thomas has taken the initiative to start a two-week project of opening waterways to prepare for the future.
Representative Thomas emphasized that one of the major crises they have faced is flooding, and as the people’s lawmaker, he is responsible for taking preventive measures ahead of the rainy season. He targeted eight communities that are often affected by flooding during heavy rainfall, ensuring that the waterways are cleared before the rains begin.
The lawmaker expressed concern that providing relief items after the flooding occurs is not a sustainable solution. He mentioned the importance of being proactive and clearing the drainages in major communities before the rainy season starts.
The project aims to make preparations for the upcoming days, with earthmoving equipment working on opening roads. Community members were seen showing appreciation and support for Representative Thomas’s initiative.
Joseph Wanyah, a resident of Cow-field, thanked the lawmaker for undertaking the project, acknowledging the difficulties they face during the rainy season. He highlighted the challenges of navigating flooded areas and expressed gratitude for the initiative to improve the waterways.
Wanyah also urged residents to stop dumping waste in waterways, as this often leads to clogging and flooding. He shared that some residents give garbage to disadvantaged youth who then dump it in the swamp, causing further issues.
Pastor Sampson of the Saint Assembly Church expressed his gratitude for Representative Thomas’s initiative, noting the positive impact it will have on alleviating long-term flooding issues. He mentioned the struggles the church has faced due to constant flooding in the area and appreciated the efforts to address the problem.
Overall, community members and local leaders are supportive of the project to clear waterways and prevent future flooding. Representative Thomas’s proactive approach to addressing the issue of flooding is welcomed, and residents are encouraged to take ownership of their environment and refrain from dumping waste in waterways. The collaboration between the lawmaker, community members, and local leaders is essential in ensuring a sustainable solution to the flooding challenges faced by the communities in Montserrado County District Number Four.
