The House of Representatives has recently taken a significant step towards ensuring the fair and beneficial review of all of Liberia’s commission agreements. This move comes in response to a communication presented by Sinoe County District Three Representative, Alex Noah, who emphasized the importance of revisiting these agreements to ensure that both the citizens of Liberia and the concessioners involved benefit equitably.
In March of this year, Representative Noah raised concerns about the need for a comprehensive review of Liberia’s concessions to ensure that both parties receive a fair share as outlined in the agreements. Recognizing the validity of his points, the leadership of the House of Representatives promptly endorsed Representative Noah’s request and formed a dedicated 15-member committee to oversee this review process.
Expressing his satisfaction with the progress made, Representative Noah highlighted the impact that his initial communication to the House has made on the lives of Liberians. He emphasized his commitment to being a proactive lawmaker who strives to bring about positive changes for his constituents.
Representative Noah emphasized the need for a fresh approach to the review process, stating, “You cannot expect a positive result when you are doing the same thing.” The committee, comprising 15 lawmakers, has been tasked with visiting concession sites in all 15 counties, engaging in discussions with relevant stakeholders, and presenting a comprehensive report to the Plenary of the House of Representatives within six months.
Representative Noah underscored the importance of ensuring a win-win situation for all parties involved, stating, “It is a win-win situation for both parties to benefit.” He emphasized the committee’s commitment to conducting thorough due diligence to ensure that the review process is conducted transparently and fairly.
As the committee embarks on this crucial task, it is set to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Liberia’s commission agreements and ensuring that they serve the interests of both the citizens of Liberia and the concessioners. With a focus on transparency, equity, and efficiency, the committee is poised to make a significant impact on Liberia’s economic landscape and contribute to the overall development and prosperity of the country.
