Mulbah K. Morlu, Jr., the former Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC), recently announced his resignation from his position in a letter addressed to George M. Weah, the Standard-bearer of the party. In his resignation letter dated February 27, 2024, Morlu expressed his decision to step down as Chairman of the CDC and the Coalition for Democratic Change.

Despite resigning from the chairmanship after six years of service, Morlu reassured Weah and the National Executive Committee of his unwavering commitment as a lifelong member of the CDC. He cited challenges faced during his tenure, emphasizing that his resignation was not driven by resentment or conflicts within the party.

One of the reasons cited for his resignation was the diminishing opportunity to effectively fulfill his role as the People’s Chairman due to constraints limiting his ability to carry out his responsibilities. Despite this, Morlu expressed his intention to remain positive and continue contributing to the peace and stability of the CDC.

Throughout his tenure, Morlu acknowledged the support of loyal partisans, young militants, and foot soldiers, whom he expressed deep gratitude towards. He highlighted the achievements and milestones of the CDC under his leadership, including upholding the party’s values, maintaining party cohesion, and ensuring the party’s competitiveness.

Despite occasional disagreements with Weah, Morlu emphasized his loyalty to the CDC and his commitment to the party’s well-being. He acknowledged the support received from dedicated partisans and expressed his pride in the party’s growth and success over the years.

With his resignation, Morlu now plans to advocate for social justice and champion the interests of marginalized communities, irrespective of political affiliations. He intends to engage with stakeholders to promote democracy, good governance, and socio-economic equality for all Liberians.

In his letter, Morlu also offered advice to Weah on assembling a proficient team of foreign policy experts to engage with key Western capitals and strengthen relations with the U.S. and its allies. He stressed the importance of prioritizing ties with the U.S. and European counterparts for the CDC’s domestic and global standing.

In conclusion, Morlu thanked the independent press for their coverage and extended his best wishes to Weah and the party’s leadership. He signed off his letter as “Sincerely yours, Mulbah K. Morlu, Jr., Former Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change.”

Morlu’s resignation marks a significant transition for the CDC, as he steps down from his leadership role to pursue advocacy and contribute to the party’s future from a civil society perspective. His dedication to the CDC and commitment to peace and stability are evident in his letter to Weah and the party.
