The Johnson family in Monrovia has expressed disappointment and regret over President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s unfulfilled promise to assist their daughter, Joyce Johnson, with her education. The family eagerly welcomed a representative from the Office of the President who visited their home to address Joyce’s school-related concerns and offer assistance, as promised during the campaign period.
Mr. Johnson recounted how Mr. Amos Weigbah Doe, sent as a representative from the Executive Mansion, raised their hopes after taking their complaint against President Boakai to the media. However, the promised assistance for Joyce’s education turned out to be a deception, with no indication of fulfillment.
In an interview with the New Republic Newspaper and LB Online TV, Mr. Johnson shared that Mr. Doe had visited their residence to assess Joyce’s outstanding tuition fees. Despite their financial struggles, Mr. Johnson clarified that they were not seeking money from the government but rather expecting President Boakai to honor his commitment to support the education of their daughter.
The family entrusted Joyce’s report card to President Boakai’s representative, emphasizing its importance to the school and themselves. However, the lack of follow-through on the promised assistance left the Johnson family feeling mocked and financially vulnerable in the eyes of others.
Mr. Johnson emphasized the importance of keeping promises, especially to a young girl who is working hard to pursue her education. He urged President Boakai to either fulfill his pledge or return Joyce’s report card, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in government actions.
Furthermore, Mr. Johnson revealed the school’s efforts to receive payment from the government, including providing an invoice to the Executive Mansion’s representative. Despite these attempts, no progress has been made towards resolving Joyce’s tuition fees, leaving the family frustrated by the lack of communication and action from the government.
Ultimately, Mr. Johnson reiterated his daughter’s dedication to her studies and the injustice of being misled with false promises. He called for the return of Joyce’s report card and a resolution to the broken commitment from President Boakai’s administration, highlighting the impact of unfilled promises on families striving to provide education for their children.
