The Movement of Bassa Youth and Students strongly denounces the alleged plot to dismiss Debar W. Allen, the Country Manager of Bea Mountain Mining Corporation, by some citizens of Grand Cape Mount County. They have labeled this action as unjust, a witch-hunt, and a means of causing tribal division within the country.

There have been protests in Cape Mount, a concession area of BMMC, demanding the removal of Mr. Allen due to the company’s perceived failure to adhere to the Mineral Development Agreement and other concerns. However, the Secretary General of MOBYS, Melvin AbleejayWloh, speaking in a press statement on March 26, 2024, in Paynesville City, described the calls for Mr. Allen’s dismissal as disturbing and warned that it could jeopardize the peace of Liberia.

Wloh emphasized that the attack on Mr. Allen by the Cape Mount citizens is not only selfish and divisive but also has the potential to incite tribal discord among the population. He highlighted that such behavior contradicts the Liberian Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, specifically Article 18 and Article 23.

The group defended Mr. Allen, noting his extensive experience as a United States-trained professional for over 20 years and his contributions to the success of BMMC for the benefit of the Liberian people. They cited the rights of Liberians to work without discrimination, as outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to support their stance against the witch-hunt of Mr. Allen based on tribal intolerance.

They expressed concern that targeting individuals based on their ethnicity goes against the values of inclusivity, diversity, and respect for all individuals. The group condemned the calls for Mr. Allen’s dismissal as lacking in patriotism, promoting tribalism, and fostering divisiveness within the community.

The Movement of Bassa Youth and Students urged the Government of Liberia to intervene and stop the witch-hunt against Mr. Allen. They called on the Legislative Caucus of Grand Bassa County, along with other prominent bodies, to step in and resolve the crisis to prevent further division within the country.

In a final statement, the group warned that if the witch-hunt against Mr. Allen continues, they will retaliate by targeting citizens of Cape Mount holding managerial positions in the Bassa region. They emphasized the need for unity and collaboration to avoid escalating tensions and ensure the betterment of the country.

Overall, the Movement of Bassa Youth and Students stands against injustice, tribalism, and witch-hunts, advocating for peace, unity, and respect for all individuals within Liberia.
