President Joseph Nyumah Boakai Sr. has recently commissioned members of his cabinet, emphasizing his intolerance for corruption and emphasizing the need for dedicated public service.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony at the Executive Mansion, President Boakai made it clear that corruption and misuse of funds will not be tolerated. He stressed that those found in breach of anti-graft laws will be held accountable and face consequences. He also emphasized that public service is not an entitlement, but an opportunity to give back to the country and fellow citizens.
The President reminded the officials that they have been entrusted with the responsibility to deliver the service that the citizens need, and urged them to put their talent and energy into their work. He highlighted the importance of delivering professional and compassionate service, and emphasized the need to genuinely transform the country.
President Boakai also set expectations for the performance of the Ministers and heads of agencies. He expressed the government’s goals and the need for immediate interventions in the 100-day deliverable plan. He urged the Cabinet members to perform at the highest level and deliver on the government’s priorities to achieve the developmental agenda for the next six years.
In addition, the President emphasized the importance of productive engagement with the other branches of the Liberian Government – the Legislature and the Judiciary. He highlighted the need for cooperation to improve the lives of citizens and stressed the importance of the Performance Management Compliance System to improve performance and encourage an open, transparent, and accountable government.
Furthermore, President Boakai mandated that every Cabinet Minister and head of agency signs a performance contract to ensure that deliverables are met and to enhance efficiency within the government. He also emphasized the requirement for all government officials to immediately declare their assets, comply with anti-graft regulations, and promote integrity in public service.
The President’s message at the commissioning ceremony served as a strong declaration of his administration’s stance on corruption and the expectations for the performance of the members of his cabinet. It also highlighted the government’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and productive collaboration with the other branches of government to achieve the country’s developmental goals.
