The Head of the West African Examination Council in Liberia (WAEC)-Liberia has confirmed that the Government of President Joseph Nyumah Boakai is committed to the continuation of the payment of WASSCE fees for 12th graders in the country. Mr. Dale Gbotoe made this announcement during an appearance on the Truth Breakfast Show on Truth FM in Monrovia.
According to Gbotoe, the Boakai administration has assured him that the government is dedicated to sustaining the payment of WASSCE fees for all 12th graders in 2024, with the possibility of extending the process. He expressed optimism that the new administration will prioritize the educational needs of Liberian students by continuing the payment of WASSCE fees.
Additionally, Gbotoe mentioned that the current Minister of Education has expressed her willingness to continue the payment of WASSCE fees for this year. He clarified that rumors about the Boakai administration refusing to pay the fees for students are false. The registration process for this year’s WASSCE was delayed due to the elections in Liberia, but WAEC is now moving forward with registration and has urged schools to submit the names of candidates eligible to sit the exam this year.
The deadline for registration is set for March 16, 2024, and no school will be allowed to submit candidate names after this deadline. WAEC has allocated 650 free slots for schools registering for the exam, and some larger institutions have been slow to submit their candidate names for the 2024 WASSCE Exam.
It is important to note that WAEC in Liberia has not requested any school in the country to pay fees for their students or collect money from students for the 2024 WASSCE exam. The commitment to the payment of WASSCE fees by the government demonstrates a commitment to education and the advancement of Liberian students.
Overall, the announcement by the Head of WAEC in Liberia regarding the continuation of WASSCE fee payments is a positive development for education in the country. The government’s dedication to supporting students in their academic pursuits will help to ensure that more students have the opportunity to take the exam and further their education. Students, schools, and parents can rest assured that the fees for the 2024 WASSCE exam will be covered for 12th graders, thanks to the ongoing support from the government.
