Monrovia-April-10-TNR: First Lady Kartumu Boakai emphasizes the importance of preventing maternal neonatal mortality in women and girls.
Madam Boakai stresses that healthcare equality is a global crusade that necessitates collective strength, wisdom, and empathy, as healthcare should be a right for all, not a luxury for the few.
She points out that fighting against preventable maternal and neonatal mortality can lead to improved health and prosperity for all.
Acknowledging the high rates of maternal and neonatal mortality in Liberia, she highlights the urgent need to combat these tragedies, with mothers facing a mortality rate of 742 per 100,000 live births and newborns at 37 per 1,000.
On the occasion of World Health Day, Madam Kartumu Boakai affirms her commitment as the Chief Maternal Newborn Health Champion and calls on everyone to unite in the fight against maternal and neonatal mortality.
She urges for global collaboration to prevent the loss of mothers and children during childbirth and emphasizes the theme of “My Health, My Right” as a call to action for all to prioritize this crucial issue.
As the Chief Maternal Newborn Health Champion, she stresses the importance of aligning efforts with the Sustainable Development Goals to protect the lives of women, children, and adolescents.
Additionally, she calls for a steadfast commitment to universal health coverage and the implementation of a National Health Insurance Scheme to ensure no one is left without access to essential healthcare services.
Madam Boakai emphasizes that healing a mother not only saves a life but uplifts humanity, and with the support of strategic partnerships, Liberia is poised to achieve health and well-being for all.
She concludes by advocating for a new narrative in global health focusing on hope, resilience, and the triumph of human courage, as she speaks at an event commemorating World Health Day at the Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.
