Evergreen Agro Enterprise (EAE), a non-governmental organization, recently expressed their gratitude towards President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. for nominating their Agribusiness Consultant, Joseph Toumed, as the Deputy Director of the Central Agricultural Research Institute (CARI). This nomination signifies the President’s commitment to improving Liberia’s food security and economic growth.

EAE emphasized that President Boakai is appointing experienced and qualified Liberians to key positions essential for the country’s economic recovery, particularly in the agriculture sector. Joseph Toumed, the designated Deputy Director of CARI, holds two Master’s degrees in Public Policy and Management from Korea Development Institute KDI School of Public Policy Management and Agricultural Economics and Management from China Agricultural University. Additionally, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business and Public Administration from the University of Liberia and has professional certificates in various areas including climate change mitigation and macroeconomic modeling.

Mr. Toumed’s professional contributions extend to the human resources capacity of Liberia, as he serves as an instructor at the College of Agricultural Economics and Extension at the University of Liberia. His teaching methods include lectures, workshops, seminars, and field assignments to enhance students’ learning experiences. Furthermore, he has expertise in Financial Management, having previously worked as a Financial Management Officer at the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, where he was involved in the implementation and maintenance of the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).

Toumed’s experience also includes roles as an Agricultural Economist in the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, where he conducted macroeconomic forecasting and analysis to support economic policy development. He contributed to the development of annual economic reviews and budget framework papers, providing technical support on economic policy matters.

EAE commended Mr. Toumed for his consultancy services, which have significantly contributed to the organization’s growth by providing guidance and expertise in enhancing agricultural productivity and promoting agribusiness development. His work has also focused on improving the competitiveness of agriculture-related industries and addressing trade challenges in specific sectors and value chains.

With his extensive qualifications and experience, EAE believes that Mr. Toumed will introduce quality reforms to enhance productivity at CARI once confirmed by the Liberian Senate. His diverse skills and knowledge in agricultural economics, financial management, and policy development make him a valuable asset in advancing Liberia’s agricultural sector and overall economic growth.

In conclusion, the appointment of Joseph Toumed as the Deputy Director of CARI reflects a strategic decision by President Boakai to leverage the expertise of qualified professionals like Toumed to drive agricultural innovation and sustainability in Liberia. EAE looks forward to the positive impact that Mr. Toumed’s leadership will bring to CARI and the agricultural sector as a whole.
