The leadership of the National Teachers’ Association of Liberia (NTAL) has issued a statement urging its partners to refrain from engaging in any business dealings with its indefinitely suspended Secretary General, Samuel Y. Johnson, and Isaac Seh Kamara, a disqualified presidential candidate. The declaration was made during a press conference held on March 19, 2024, at the association’s headquarters in Monrovia.

The leadership of NTAL highlighted that both Johnson and Kamara had conducted press conferences where they made unfounded accusations against the current administration led by President Mary W. Mulbah Nyumah. Allegations included claims that the past government conspired with the Ministry of Education to target Johnson and accused President Nyumah of accepting a bribe in the form of a vehicle to compromise their stance against the LEAP school.

In response to these claims, the current Secretary General of NTAL, Dominic D. M. Suah, clarified that Johnson and Kamara no longer held the positions they claimed, labeling their actions as impersonation and emphasizing their lack of credibility. Johnson had been dismissed following the 66th National Delegates Convention in Voinjama City, Lofa County, on December 28-30, 2022, due to various infractions, including failure to fulfill responsibilities outlined in the NTAL constitution.

The statement released by NTAL also revealed that Johnson had been subject to multiple warnings and suspensions prior to his dismissal, citing his non-compliance with organizational regulations and directives. His services were terminated in accordance with the amended constitution of NTAL following due process and approval by the Representative Council and National Delegates Convention.

Regarding Isaac Seh Kamara, the former President of Bomi County Chapter of NTAL, it was disclosed that he owed the organization a significant sum of money, leading to his disqualification from running for national president during the 65th National Delegates Convention. Kamara’s actions were characterized as inept and corrupt, further casting doubt on his ability to demand an audit of the association.

NTAL urged its members and partners to avoid any engagement with Johnson and Kamara, emphasizing their lack of credibility and integrity. The statement also commended the dedication of its members and education workers while cautioning against being swayed by false accusations aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the organization.

In conclusion, the leadership of NTAL reiterated its commitment to upholding the values of the association and urged all stakeholders to support their efforts in promoting quality education and professional standards in Liberia.
