The President of the Dominion Christian Institute Alumni Association emphasized the importance of choosing a career path wisely before leaving high school during the school’s Career Day program. Mark N. Mengonfia encouraged students to carefully consider their skills and interests, explore career options, and set achievable goals to develop a career plan that will guide them throughout their lives.

Mengonfia highlighted the significance of career planning, stating that it reduces the risk of making decisions that may not align with one’s goals and helps in recognizing when it’s time to explore new opportunities and acquire new skills. He urged students to assess their skills and knowledge to determine if they are a good fit for their desired job, emphasizing the importance of filling any gaps in skills to achieve career goals.

The alumni association president advised students to make a list of their transferable and specialist skills and to avoid following a career path just because friends or others are doing it. He stressed the need for students to conduct an honest assessment of their skills, values, and interests to narrow down their career options and make informed decisions about their future.

Career planning was described as a continuous process that requires revisiting and reviewing goals and objectives to adapt to changing circumstances. Mengonfia encouraged students to map out their career paths clearly and not be constrained by the goals they have initially set. He emphasized that career planning should help individuals navigate the process of trying something new and evolving throughout their career journey.

The Career Day program was part of a weeklong event celebrating the school’s Gala Day, which included activities such as a thanksgiving service, African custom Day, King & Queen Contest, Color Houses League, and a Parade. Former students of the institution, including professionals like In-Training-Doctor James Harris and Pastor Hanson Rejoice Togbah, shared their experiences and advised students on making informed decisions based on their knowledge and aspirations.

Pastor Togbah recounted his journey from aspiring to be a doctor to answering the call to become a pastor, highlighting the importance of following one’s calling. Pharmacist Harris shared how he had to adjust his career aspirations to pursue opportunities in the medical field, showcasing the importance of adaptability and seizing new opportunities.

Principal Instructor Henry Smith spoke about the military as a disciplined profession offering diverse skills and opportunities for those interested. He emphasized the importance of discipline in a military career and encouraged students to consider the military as a viable career option if they meet the requirements and are committed to maintaining discipline.

Overall, the Career Day program at Dominion Christian Institute highlighted the significance of thoughtful career planning, self-assessment, and continuous learning and adaptation in achieving career success. Students were encouraged to explore their interests, values, and skills to make informed decisions about their future careers and to remain open to new opportunities and challenges throughout their professional journey.
