Former Representative of Montserrado County District# 8 and member of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Acarous Moses Gray, has revealed plans for the CDC to organize a spontaneous nationwide protest. Gray stated that Liberian leader Joesph Boakai will wake up one morning to find the masses protesting across the nation, demanding justice and better living conditions.
In an interview on Freedom FM on Monday, March 25, 2024, Gray criticized the ruling Unity Party-led Government for failing to deliver on their promises and for the deteriorating conditions in Liberia. He highlighted issues such as corruption, disasters causing loss of life, economic challenges, and lack of justice under Boakai’s leadership.
Gray, a former CDC lawmaker, emphasized that the CDC understands the tactics of the opposition, having been in their position before transitioning back to the opposition from the ruling party. He pledged to hold the Boakai-led Government accountable and to expose any misinformation or disinformation spread by the Unity Party during their time in opposition.
As the former Secretary General of the Congress for Democratic Change, Gray urged other opposition political parties to join forces against the injustices prevalent in the current government. He emphasized a commitment to reciprocity, stating, “I believe in the reciprocal theory – an eye for an eye. What they did when they were in opposition, we will reciprocate.”
Gray reflected on his experience battling the former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf-led Government for 12 years, during which he faced financial constraints but remained steadfast in his opposition. He warned that the Unity Party-led Government would face a more aggressive approach from the CDC, both financially and politically, in accordance with constitutional provisions.
In conclusion, Gray’s remarks underscore the growing tensions and dissatisfaction with the current government in Liberia. The plans for a nationwide protest signal a resurgence of opposition activism and a push for accountability and change in the country. It remains to be seen how the government will respond to these challenges and whether the opposition’s efforts will lead to meaningful reforms.
