Morlu Resigned…Today Mulbah K. Morlu, Jr. announced his resignation as Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) in Liberia. In a letter addressed to George M. Weah, the Standard-bearer of the CDC, Morlu outlined his reasons for stepping down from his position after six years of service. Despite resigning as Chairman, Morlu expressed his continued commitment as a lifelong member of the CDC.

The decision to resign was not solely based on personal hardships faced during his tenure but also on the diminishing opportunities to effectively fulfill his role as the People’s Chairman. Despite these challenges, Morlu remains grateful for the support of loyal partisans, young militants, and foot soldiers who have stood by him.

In his resignation letter, Morlu emphasized the importance of maintaining internal party cohesion and preventing potential crisis through careful words and actions. He acknowledged the progress made under his leadership, including upholding the rights of partisans, maintaining peace and adherence to the rule of law, and strengthening the CDC’s competitiveness.

Throughout his nearly two-decade-long involvement with the CDC, Morlu has shown unwavering loyalty to the party, even in times of disagreement with party leadership. His decision to resign was made in the interest of maintaining the stability of the party and preventing internal discord that could disappoint loyal supporters, especially the youth.

Following his resignation, Morlu plans to advocate for social justice and champion the interests of marginalized communities, regardless of political affiliations. He intends to engage with stakeholders within and beyond the CDC to promote democracy, good governance, and the rule of law.

In his letter, Morlu also advised party leadership to assemble a proficient team of foreign policy experts to engage with key Western capitals and rebuild confidence with international partners. He stressed the importance of strengthening ties with the U.S. and its European counterparts to enhance the CDC’s domestic and global political standing.

Morlu concluded his letter by extending his best wishes to George M. Weah and the party’s leadership. His resignation marks a new chapter in his advocacy for social justice and democratic principles, as he continues to work towards a better future for all Liberians.
